About Counselling

Life can be very difficult at times and we don’t always feel comfortable about talking about what is effecting us.

Counselling is known as a ‘talking therapy’ where people can feel safe to explore the difficulties they are experiencing, and bring about changes for the better. The difficulties we go through as human beings, for example bereavement, work, family or relationship issues, can cause worries, anxieties, stress, depression and anger.

Those issues, may come from childhood, which have brought issues in your adult life. Or they may come from traumatic experiences or accidents.

I can help you to find answers, understandings of the effect of your present situation with behaviour and communication responses you’re using at present. I will help you to explore your choices and goal setting and help you through your problems. You will be shown new coping mechanisms, where the problem doesn’t overwhelm and control you.

My private run practise is my real passion. I am deeply compassionate about helping others. You will find me very caring and I will treat whatever you bring to your sessions with total confidentiality and the deepest respect, bringing a personal warmth to your sessions.

I will suggest and guide you and help you improve your life, gaining a better understanding of yourself.

The main types of Models use in counselling sessions are:

  • Person Client Centred Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Psychodynamic Therapy or Psychoanalysis.

Person or Client Centred is used in a consultation, where you have a safe place to talk about what brought you to therapy. A first visit to a therapist whether it’s your first time of therapy, or you’ve experienced therapy before can be nerving, and can cause anxious uncertainty. I will help you to feel safe and comfortable and encourage you to express as much as you feel comfortable doing so. It helps me see and understand the therapy plan that’s best for you. It’s the start of you learning, how life and present events are effecting you. It is based on the belief that it is not life events that cause problems, but how we experience those life events. Which relates to how we feel about ourselves, and the affect it has on our self-esteem self worth and confidence. Using this therapy will help you to start to understand the effect of your past, and how the influences and your upbringing, has shaped who you are today and how well you deal with situations and experiences past and present.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps you to understand the workings of the mind, and help you to manage your problems by looking and possibly changing the way you think and behave. It shows you the identity of negative thoughts and beliefs, and assists you to then recognise a detrimental negative thought. It will help you to change your thinking pattern, which is very beneficial to those who suffer and are controlled by issues like Anxiety Depression and OCD.

Psychodynamic Therapy or Psychoanalysis is a therapeutic process which works with your unconscious mind, aiming to bring the unconscious into conscious awareness. It can help you to understand and resolve problems by increasing awareness of your ‘inner world’ and its influence over relationships both past and present. It differs from most other therapies by aiming for for the outcome to give a deep seated understanding of your personality and emotional development.

My training allowed me to become qualified in all these models and along with Transactional Analysis and Psychotherapy. By working with all these therapies will assist you to find the path you choose to take. I will always discuss with you the best therapy route for you.
